Experimental Film
My exploration into experimental film revolves primarily around two main aspects, first is implementing some of the basics such as motion type, animation, video editing, compositing etc. but the more interesting experimental side is a process dubbed "datamoshing"; in essence, corrupting a file intentionally, and manipulating the data to create interesting visual effects. Essentially partially destroying a digital file, and then recovering it before it becomes completely destroyed.
The two videos below are part of a recent instagram post.
Ven Aqui used footage I had taken myself of the Sydney Opera House, sped up, and heavily corrupted. This was keyed into an animation I had done of a cat noticing and turning towards off screen.
This was stock footage taken and corrupted heavily as well, experimenting fully with placing data frames in incorrect places, and messing with the colour data directly. This was then overlaid with the simple typeset.
